Overview: The Global Hawk (RQ-4) is a
combat-proven, jet powered, fixed-wing unmanned
aircraft used to provide persistent surveillance over
a wide area. It has high resolution Synthetic
Aperture Radar that can penetrate cloud-cover and
sandstorms, and Electro-Optical/Infrared imagery
at long range with long loiter times over target
areas. The "R" is the Department of Defense
designation for reconnaissance, while "Q" indicates
it's an unmanned aircraft.
